Admission Criteria

Eligibility for Admission to the First Semester of 5 year / 3 year law Course

A candidate for being eligible for admission to the First Semester of 5 year LLB/BLS or 3 year LLB Course must have passed twelfth standard examination or its equivalent or bachelor’s degree examination of Mumbai University or a corresponding degree examination of any other University recognized as equivalent there to by Mumbai University as the case may be in any faculty with minimum 45% marks. The above percentage of marks is relaxed by 5% for candidates belonging to Schedule Caste or Schedule Tribe.

 

As per Bar Council of India Rules 2008, applicants who have obtained 10+2 or graduation/post graduation through Open Universities system directly without having any basic qualification for prosecuting such studies are not eligible for admission in the law courses.

 

No student shall be allowed to simultaneously register for an LLB degree program with any other Graduate/Post graduate/Certificate Course run by any University or Institute and every student shall give an undertaking to that effect.

Admission Requirements

Admission must be taken by the candidate in person.

While seeking admission and paying the fee, the student must submit the following documents:

 1. Original and certified copy of statement of marks and passing certificates of all the relevant years.

 2. Passing certificate and certified copy of birth or school leaving certificate.

 3. Two recent passport size photographs.

 4. Married women to register in their maiden name unless change of name certified in the official gazette[Marriage certificate is not enough according to eligibility & enrolment section of University] 

 5. In case of a student migrating from another Board/University, provisional eligibility certificate from Mumbai University. According to 0.111, a student from another University or Board of Secondary or Intermediate Education or any other Statutory examining body seeking admission to the University shall apply to the Registrar for a statement of eligibility and except   in the case of students from the Universities in the State of Maharashtra, who shall be required to pay Rs.200/- only and for out of Maharashtra State pay a fee of Rs.300/- (Fee for the foreign nationals is Rs.730/-). The Registrar may issue a provisional statement of eligibility if he is satisfied that the applicant is prima facie eligible for admission to this University. On production of such a provisional statement of eligibility, a student may seek provisional admission to this University at his own risk and on condition that he submit to the Registrar’s office through the Head/Principal of his Institution/College, the necessary certificates in original together with a certified copy of each for confirmation of his eligibility before the close of the academic term in which the student is provisionally admitted to the University. No student from another University shall be admitted to any Institution maintained by or affiliated to the University except on production of a provisional statement of eligibility issued by the Registrar.

The University may issue a provisional statement of eligibility after due date by imposing a penalty of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 10,000 for non-professional and professional courses respectively subject to the fulfillment of conditions laid down in Ordinance 119 and 120 relating to the attendance to be kept by the student and also subject to the condition that the student is admitted as per the admission schedule of the University.

 6. An undertaking that the student is not simultaneously pursuing any other Course such as CA, CS, etc.

 7. In case of student from a college affiliated to Mumbai University, transference certificate from that college. The application for such certificate should be sent through the college in the prescribed form. The student shall be responsible for obtaining T.C. from his previous college and submitting it to the College.

 8. In case of a student who has kept one term in another law college affiliated to Mumbai University and desires to take admission to this College for the next semester, a “No Objection Certificate” in the prescribed form must be obtained from that college.

 9. An undertaking that he will attend a minimum 75% of the total number of lectures held during each semester.

 10. At the time of admission every student shall enroll himself/herself with the University of Mumbai by filling the enrollment form. He/She shall also fill the examination forms for both the semesters.

 11. He/She shall also register himself/herself with the Bar Council of India.

 Every student of the third and fifth year of the LLB/BLS Course and the second and third year of the LLB Course shall fill the University Convocation form
