Library and Reading Room (Shakuntala Gursahani Library - SGM)

Shakuntala Gursahani Library is named after Late Shakuntala Gursahani, daughter of Advocate Nari Gursahani. The research friendly library facilities, availability of computers and internet, digitization of case law, access to latest journals and legal databases makes reading and studying a pleasurable experience at NGLC. Books are not issued for being taken outside the library hall, but there is a lending section in respect of prescribed books, from which books are loaned to students of the College for being taken home in accordance with the Rules and Regulations framed for this purpose.

Library Hours

The library is kept open from 8.00 AM to 5.00 PM on all working days. One month prior to the University examination, it is kept open from 8.00 AM to 8.00 PM and is open even on Sundays and Holidays.

Services & Facilities

The services and facilities provided by the library are as follows:

Book Lending Service

This service is offered to all library users. The resources borrowed from the library shall be returned on or before the due date during library working hours. Its terms and conditions are mentioned in Library Rules and Regulations.

Reference Service

Reference Service is an important service offered by the library. It also maintains a collection of reference books consisting of Central & State Acts, Digest, Reporters, Journals, Ready Reckoners, encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, CD-ROMs, Audio and Video cassettes etc.

Periodical Service

It’s a Reference facility provided to the students & staffs. The magazines and journals are made available to library users. Students have to read in the library only.

E-Journals and E-Books service

The library provides ID and its password to users for making use of e-resources for INFLIBNET N-LIST, e-Journals and Manupatra database are made available through IP based.

The SGM Library has subscribed four databases-

2) AIR Webworld
3) AIR Privy Council
4) Manupatra

Library Rules & Regulations

  • Bags, cases, folders etc. must be left in the property counter.
  •  Students’ College identity card is necessary for access to the library.
  •  The users shall maintain silence within the library premises. Conversations and gossip are strictly forbidden. No reader is allowed to sleep in the library.
  •  Anyone caught marking books or any other library material is accountable for replacing the same.
  • The membership of the library is not transferable.
  • Eatables are not allowed inside the Library.
  •  Students are allowed to get one book issued for one week from the library by producing a library borrower card at the issue counter. After one week they have to return it or renew it.
  •  Renewal process will be subject to claims by other readers.
  •  Students have to pay a late fine of Rs. 3/- per day.
  • Students can refer to the reference books in the library during library hours by submitting their ID card. They have to return the book on the same day.
  •  For damage caused to the book, fine will be charged @100% of the cost of the book.
  •  In case of book loss, students have to give a book of the same author, latest edition or will have to pay the price of the book lost.

Library Staff

  • The staff members should not be involved in loud conversation with anyone in the library and educate the users to keep silence.
  • Must use appropriate language and behave with students, parents, and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • To provide users a detailed information about the library resource and services towards the utilization.
  • To treat students/staff members with respect.

Library Membership

Students: Newly admitted Students must submit the admission fee receipt along with the photograph to the Library.Library cards will be issued to the students. Students are required to carry their ID cards at all times while on campus.

Staff Members: Staff members are issued the library card.

Remote Access Services

Users can access online journals and e-databases.

  • The information retrieved from these online journals and e-databases through remote/campus access facilities will be used only for their educational and research purpose and not for any commercial gains.
  • If a user is found violating the above-mentioned conditions, he/she will be liable to face strict disciplinary action as decided by the Principal of the NG Law College Ulhasnagar.
  • User should be a registered student or Faculty of the NG Law College.
  • If the users face any problem in accessing this facility, they should contact the library staff in person.
